I have a fun challenge for you guys today to get the week going: have you tried painting (or drawing of any kind) with your eyes closed? If not, try it this week. No, seriously, try it. My worst enemy when I'm painting? My eyes. I spend so much time worrying (and judging) about how the picture looks that I miss out on the joy I get when I create.
Last I week I laid out newspaper all over my table (definitely protect your furniture if you are going to paint with your eyes close) then put my art journal on top of that. I also had water in a dish and my watercolors nearby. Now I did have my eyes opened to get the paint on my brush and put the brush above my page, but then I closed my eyes and moved the color around. (The orange and yellow.)
I'd open my eyes every so often to make sure I wasn't making too much of a mess, and when I was satisfied with my orange and yellow page, I went ahead and let the paint dry. Finally, I cleaned up some of the lines between the yellow and orange to take away the blurred effect, and used purple and black paint to add darker lines in an attempt to have a stained glass look (sort of...).
I spend so much time worrying about how the picture looks that I miss out on the joy I get when I create. (<<< tweet this!)
I want you creatives out there to try this challenge this week and share your art work. Use the hashtag #creativeandliving so we can all see your awesome creations.
Have a great week and tell me the most daring thing you've done with art in the comments below.
